Giri Card Game

PRODUCT DESIGN, GRAPHIC DESIGN, CREATIVE DIRECTION

DESIGN CONCEPT

The Giri game is a card-based game designed for kids that seamlessly blends playing, drawing, and storytelling. Each card features various elements, such as characters, places, times, and objects, challenging kids to craft imaginative stories that incorporate all these elements. This game is designed to nurture creativity, encourage creative thinking, boost vocabulary, and enhance children's confidence. The concept for the game was presented to me, and my role was to envision and design the entire product, encompassing all essential elements. Each game yields a fresh and unique story, as the countless card combinations produce distinct plots each time.

These stories captivate children with their entertainment value and often touch the hearts of parents, who eagerly write them down and cherish the memories. Recognizing that the game essentially comprises a collection of short novels, I was inspired to design the product as faux book covers. In the same vein, these 'books' filled with captivating tales deserve a special place on your favourite bookshelf. The game, which incorporates various essential elements for play, is crafted to resemble faux book covers that seamlessly blend in with your cherished book collection.

IMPLEMENTATION

The game set is designed as a sleeve box, resembling a book spine when displayed on a bookshelf. The background of the cards draws inspiration from the patterns found in vintage card decks, with the modular character adapting to different themes. The drawings on the front of each card, created by children of various ages, are carefully redrawn to maintain their playful charm and unique logic while ensuring a cohesive style and consistent look and feel throughout.

The entire set is conveniently packed into a small canvas drawstring bag, allowing kids to carry the game with them wherever they go, as they often do with their most treasured possessions.
